Ray-Ban was actually a sunglasses brand founded in 1937 which instantly got famous because of their high quality sunglasses. Ray-Ban introduced the two main types of sunglasses which are famous till date, the Aviator (especially designed for the U.S Air Force pilot and were free) and the Wayfarer.

After lieutenant John MacCready returned from a balloon flight in 1920 he had permanently damaged his eyes due to sun rays. Later Bausch & Lomb were asked to develop a pair of sunglasses which give maximum protection from the harmful rays of the sun while it also add charm and style to the personality. The again modified the sunglasses in 1937, which has a feature of anti glare. It was especially designed metallic frame which was gold plated and the lens were tinted in green color which is effective in filtering out the UV rays and it was very light in weight.

Every pilot was given these sunglasses for free and they became very popular during the World War II. There is a famous photo of General Douglas MacArthur taken when he landed on the beaches of Philippines. Photograph has clearly a masterpiece which showed him wearing these aviator sunglasses – which made these Aviator sunglasses very popular all over the World.

Ray-Bans sunglasses have been seen a lot in the films from all over the world and they increased in the popularity of Ray-Ban. The hero Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1961, Dan Akroyd and John Belushi had worn Wayfarer in the film Blues Brothers. Tom Cruise in Risky Business (1983) has made this a world class fashion in 90s and it again got evolved when in 2006 the Honda Formula One Racing team members wore Ray-Ban.

Now Luxottica group own the Ray-Ban with the headquarters in Italy. Ray-Ban sunglasses along with its classical style it also have the huge range of exciting design.
