One of the determining factors in protection against ultraviolet and infrared rays of the sun is the color of the sunglasses. Gray colored sunglasses are said to offer best protection. Brown and green tinted sunglasses offer nearly the same protection. On the other hand, blue or purple colored sunglasses are rather dangerous than protective. According to science digest, purple and blue sunglasses can expose us to ultraviolet rays even more than not wearing sunglasses at all. The reason for this is that the pupils get dilated due to the dark colored lens but the blue or purple colored sunglasses cause more UV rays to enter into the eyes as the guard is lowered at the time the pupils are dilated.

It’s a good idea to check the UVA and UVB rating from the tag while shopping for sunglasses. UV radiation can cause cataract and even blindness so it is always intelligent to spend a few extra bucks for the safety of your eyes instead of going for a cheaper but less safe option. Your eyes deserve to be protected and be safe.
